Voice: "Harlemites March". An underwhelming 1,500 people gather, and for some reason it's more newsworthy than, say, Saddam's regime falling. The message is crap: quoting one participant, "the ones that are going to be suffering after the war are the blacks.” What on earth makes that a sensible comment? Charlie Rangel showed up, and Councilman Charles Barron had this mindless insight to share:
“This is not a war about stopping terrorism, because some of the greatest terrors have occurred right here in America—when they do not educate our people, house our people, clothe our people, or employ our youth. It’s disgusting that we have to sit here and see a single black youth, or Latino youth come home in a body bag. . . . Our youth joined the armed services to get better education, not to be somebody’s cannon fodder for oil.”
The comment doesn't really warrant a response, but the article does: the idea that this is newsworthy on the level of the space and prominence which it is given is so obviously false.
