Tom Daschle is up to something... first, in very powerful and bold questioning of Bush's ability, he wonders aloud why Bin Laden has not been found; then the Judiciary Committe makes an odd protest approval of Dennis Shedd's nomination (it must be argued that Pat Leahy is largely responsible for Judiciary Committee maneuvering, but he didn't come up with this one on his own). Daschle's showing some spice and verve. Perhaps he's attempting to shift gears after losing the Senate; perhaps this is a continuation of his "we ought not to politicize war" speech; perhaps he's preparing to become precisely the obstructionist that Bush & Co. have complained he was all along when he really wasn't and now he figures if he's going to have the title, he might as well earn it.
Regardless of what they mean, bold moves these certainly are.
BTW: Towards the end of the Judiciary article, there's an interesting bit on some of the last work of Strom Thurmond's career...more on that possibly to come.
