Today's Daily News cover on the Bloomberg tax break is an interesting perspective that's only slightly dishonest and raises questions in a serious way. At the same time, while reading it, it becomes abundantly clear that the NYT could never be expected to run something similar. The reason why is that the NYT simply doesn't do follow-up analysis on news it missed in the first place, and doesn't make a point of emphasizing the singular major aspects of a story. But this seems like the kind of reporting that is helpful and indispensable in understanding the issues involved, and it's a serious problem that such stories aren't remarked upon by a paper with the Times' reach and credibility.
