An incredibly important debate about affirmative action in the newsroom, between William McGowan and Juan Gonzalez, discussing McGowan's book, Coloring the News. Gonzalez proves himself to be as poor a debater as he is a columnist. McGowan passionately describes the problem of disenfranchised white people; at the end of the day, though, being able to describe that phenomenon should empower oneself to live beyond it. One gets the sense that McGowan hasn't engaged in that self-empowerment.
